Smith takes seat on Calamus council

By Natalie Regan

At a short meeting Monday, Feb. 4, the oath of office was administered to Rodney Smith, who will fill out the Calamus City Council term of Thomas McMahon, who resigned.

YWCA executive director Lori Freudenberg, who attended the meeting, noted the YWCA in Clinton has been the only certified local provider concerning domestic violence and sexual assault cases for both Clinton and Jackson counties. Due to federal and state government cuts in funding, the YWCA board asked the city of Calamus to contribute $500 and create a line item in its budget on an annual basis.

After discussion, the council agreed this is a good program and approved the annual contribution.

The company's bid included single seal coat at $2 per square yard; base repair at $3.10 per square yard and patching material furnished and placed at $185 per ton.
