Smith, Friedrichsen sworn-in to new Northeast school board

Andrew Friedrichsen and Mary Smith took the oath of office Sept. 23 as the newest members of the Northeast Community School Board following the Sept. 10 school election.

Friedrichsen received 152 votes in the election, and Smith received 118 votes, while candidate Erin Meyermann received 79 votes.

Chuck Corr was elected president of the new board, and Rich Krogmann was elected vice president.

The board also recognized retiring director Mark Neblung for more than 22 years of service to the school district.

The board presented Neblung a plaque commemorating his service and a lifetime activity pass good for admission to any extracurricular events at Northeast.

In other reorganization business, the board:

•Adopted written policies and rules and regulations for board meetings.

•Set the regularly monthly board meeting for 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month.

•Appointed Kristy Weiss board secretary/treasurer and set a bond amount of $2 million.

•Appointed the Lynch Dallas Law Firm legal counsel for collective bargaining and the Ahlers Law Firm counsel for other legal issues.

•Approved Gateway State Bank as the district's official depository.

•Set a deposit limit of $8 million.

•Reviewed and affirmed the district mission statement. The statement is "Our mission is to educate students to become resourceful learners and contributing citizens."
