Virtus C. Kammerer, 87, of Camanche died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Sept. 25, at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton.
Burial was in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jason Golden, Jessica Vineyard, Jason Vineyard, Jennifer Kammerer, Jaime Kammerer and Eric Jensen. Honorary pallbearers were Michael and Matthew Kammerer.
Virtus Kammerer was born Sept. 9, 1925, in DeWitt to Henry and Martha Mumm Kammerer. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, serving in Germany 1943-1946.
He married Darleen Jensen June 8, 1946, in Clinton; she died in 2010.
Virtus worked at International Paper as a roll tender and inspector for over 25 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, and American Legion Post No. 734 in Camanche, where he had served as commander.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family.
Virtus is survived by his three sons, Ricky (Karen Haverkate) of Everett, Wash., Steve of Clinton, and Terry (Jackie) of Camanche; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, a son and three sisters.
Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, or to Iowa Hospice.
