Carol L. Thoma
Carol L. Thoma, 57, of Durant died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, in Walcott.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 24, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Pastor Nate Montover officiated. 

Burial was in the Durant Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sam, Brett and Henry Hansen, Mike, Andy and Justin Bowman, Bryan and Aaron Thoma, Dave Jungjohan and Brandon Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Kristin Milotte, Lara Buckles, Linissa and Liana Bowman, Cassi VanHoutte and Monica Anderson.

Carol was born Aug. 3, 1955, to Richard and Arlyn Dodge Bowman in Lexington, Neb. She graduated from Stanwood High School in 1973, and married Christie M. Thoma Aug. 19, 1978, in Durant.

  Carol worked at the Lamp Liter in Walcott. Previously, she had owned and operated Thoma's Jack and Jill in West Liberty with her husband, Christie.

  She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandson.

Carol is survived by her husband; her son, Scott (Kara) Thoma of Iowa City; her daughter, Elizabeth (Sarah) Thoma of Denver, Colo.; a grandson; her parents of DeWitt; a sister, Tyra (Terry) Miller of Lake Lynnwood, Ill.; and brothers, Dick (Cindy) Bowman of McCausland and Don (Jane) Bowman of Delmar.

  She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Durant Park Board for playground maintenance and improvements in her memory.
