John W. Dugan Betty I. Dugan
Funeral services have been held for John W. and Betty I. Dugan, residents of the Aledo Health and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of Milan, Ill.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill., where military honors were conducted for John by Milan American Legion Post 569/200 and Rock Island VFW Post 1303.

John W. Dugan, 89, died Aug. 23, 2012, at the center. Services were held at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, Aug. 28.

He was born March 1, 1923, in Burlington to Albert P. and Nellie Schulte Dugan. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Marine Corps.

He married Betty Tary Jan. 15, 1943, in Chicago, Ill.

John worked as an electrician for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years.

He served as a trustee for the village of Milan for many years and oversaw the village water department.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, and the St. Patrick's Society of the Quad Cities. He often helped his son-in-law, Jim Seymour, conduct auctions.

Betty I. Dugan died Sept. 21, 2012, at the center. Services were held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, Sept. 26.

Betty was born July 1, 1924, in Macoupin County, Ill., to Harry and Mamie McKennel Tary. She married John Dugan Jan. 15, 1943, in Chicago.

She ran the lunch wagon for years for Jim Seymour Auction Service and for horse shows and was known for her pies and good food.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society and the Beautiful China painters club.

Surviving the couple are their daughter, Mary Seymour of Delmar; a son, Thomas (Margaret "Peggy") Dugan of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

They were preceded in death by a son-in-law.

John also is survived by sisters, Mary Rita Daxon of Rock Island, JoAnn DeVrieze of East Moline, Ill., Martha (Earl) Kroeger of Rock Island and Pauline Dugan of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by six siblings.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband and five siblings.

Memorials for John may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and for Betty, to the family.
