Doris Thede
Doris Thede
Doris Thede, 90, formerly of DeWitt, died Oct. 1, 2012, at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past two and a half years.

A Mass will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone is in charge of arrangements.

Doris was born in Antelope County in Nebraska Jan. 2, 1922, to Fred and Faye Adair Seiler. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Boone in 1940.

Doris married Roy "Lefty" Thede Nov. 1, 1942, in Boone. The couple lived in Boone, moving to DeWitt in 1962. They returned to the Boone area in 1984. The couple was three months short of celebrating their 60-year wedding anniversary at the time of Lefty's death. Soon after his death, she returned to DeWitt.

Prior to her marriage, she worked at Woolworth's in Boone and was a dental receptionist.

She was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone and St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. Doris was in charge of collecting lunch tickets at St. Joseph Catholic School and was the driver for their junior varsity cheerleaders and fans.

Doris enjoyed word search puzzles, newspaper jumbles, jigsaw puzzles, reading and helping Lefty feed and water birds and squirrels. In later years, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris is survived by a son, Tim (Kaye) of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughters Teresa (Dale) Loussaert of Clive and Christine (Gary) Rippentrop of DeWitt; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Roselyn Reinsch, Eileen Gustafson, Hazel Johnson, Chris Alexander, Barbara Thede and Harriett Thede, all of Boone, and Shirley Thede of California; and a brother-in-law Ross (Gerry) Thede of Colorado.

She also was preceded in death by an infant son.

Memorials may be directed to the family for donations at a later date.
