Alan Hoffman
Alan Hoffman, 84, of Preston died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at his home.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston, with the Rev. Greg Geier officiating.

Burial with military rites was in Union Cemetery, rural Preston.

Alan was born June 5, 1928, to George and Edna Straub Hoffman in Jackson County. He attended Preston High School, graduating with the class of 1946.

Alan served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Charleen May Moore Aug. 23, 1953, in Lost Nation. She died Dec. 24, 1993.

Alan was a lifelong farmer in the Preston area. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Preston American Legion Post 602.

He enjoyed woodworking, auctions, reading and the design and construction of farm buildings.

Alan is survived by daughters, Miriam Sue Hoffman of Chicago, Ill., and Patricia Ann Hoffman of Preston; three granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Marjorie Cornelius of Maquoketa.
