Lois G. Schumann
Lois Schumann, 83, passed on at her home in Maquoketa Nov. 19, 2012, after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer.

Respecting her wishes, a private viewing for family members will be held, and her body will be cremated.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Lois Genevieve Lubben was born Dec. 11, 1928, near Baldwin to Harry and Ruth Sey-fert Lubben. She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1946 and attended the University of Northern Iowa.

She worked in operation communications for both Braniff Airlines in Dallas and Pan American Airlines in San Francisco.

She married John R. Schumann Sept. 18, 1952, in Maquoketa. After three years as a military wife, she followed her husband's career, living in Ohio, North Dakota, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and overseas in Great Britain. After retirement, she and her husband returned to Iowa.

Lois was a talented gardener. Her flowers brightened the neighborhood every summer, and she provided fresh vegetables to local restaurants. She was active in antique collection and trading. She loved to read, and mystery novels were her favorite. She was an avid supporter of the Jackson County Humane Society.

She is survived by her husband, John; her son, John (wife, Paula) and her grandson Michael of Tulsa, Okla. Also surviving are her sister, Lola Cain (husband, Darrel) of Elwood; and brother Harold Lubben (wife, Nadine) of Maquoketa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Howard.

Memorials should be made to the Jackson County Humane Society.

Lahey Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa are in charge of arrangements.
