Elmer I. Horman

Elmer I. Horman, 94, of Lowden, formerly of Wheatland, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11, at Peace United Church of Christ in Bennett with Pastor Tom Emerick officiating.

Burial was in Inland Cemetery in rural Bennett, with military honors by Lillis-Deerberg Legion Post 366, Lowden.

Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland, was in charge of the arrangements.



Elmer was born Aug. 11, 1918, in rural Bennett to August and Ella Beuthien Horman. He married Mabel Schmidt Feb. 23, 1949, in Lowden. She died Nov. 10, 2012. 



Elmer served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He and his wife farmed in the Wheatland area and moved to Lowden after retirement.

In addition to his church, he was active with the Lowden Legion, Lowden Senior Citizens and Lowden Retirement Housing Corporation.

He enjoyed playing cards and visits from his family. Elmer also took part in the Honor Flight out of the Quad Cities. Survivors include a son, Randall (Sandra) of Wheatland; a daughter, Pat Schulz of Calamus; grandsons, Eric (Patty) Schulz, Aaron (Megan) Horman, Josh (Jenny) Horman and Brandon (Jessie) Horman; great-grandchildren, Jena Schulz, Nicole Schulz, Gavin Schulz, Carter Horman, Cadence Horman and Jamian Horman; brothers, Harold (Mary Louise) Horman and Raldo Horman; sisters, Marvella Fehling, Alice (Gerald) Rowold, Irene Rowold and Erna Rowold. 


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel; brothers, Clarence and Earl; and a son-in-law, Frank.
