Ralph John Steines
Ralph John Steines, 88, of Calamus, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, at SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, with the Rev. Father William Kneemiller officiating.

Burial, with military rites, was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus. Pallbearers were Terry, Ryan and Tait Steines, Jim and Adam Gravert and Walter Bartels.

Schultz Funeral Home of Grand Mound was in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph was born March 27, 1924, in Spragueville to William Lawrence and Lorena Marquerite Schmidt Steines. Ralph served in the United States Army during World War II.

He farmed the family farm in rural Calamus for over 60 years. Ralph also drove a school bus for Calamus Community Schools for 14 years.

He was a member of SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, and was also a member of the Magnus M. Petersen American Legion Post 466 of Calamus for nearly 50 years.

Ralph loved the land he farmed and animals that he cared for. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Surviving are brothers, Loren (Darlene) of Alpha, Ill., and William "Butch" of Dixon; sisters, Doris Ihrig of Maquoketa and Junice Nelson of Conyers, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ralph in death were four brothers and two sisters.

Memorials are suggested to CALCO Hall Roof Fund.
