Mildred Fatchett
Mildred Regina Fatchett
Mildred Regina Fatchett, 94, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Westwing Place, DeWitt, after complications from flu.

Mildred was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Botkins, Ohio, to Alvin Boyer and Myrtle Ina Peters Boyer. In 1919, her parents brought her to DeWitt, which, for the ma-jority of her life, was home.

Milly attended DeWitt Public Schools, graduating in 1937. She worked at several local businesses in DeWitt during her life including the box factory, the calendar factory and then Iowa Mutual Insurance Co., from which she retired in 1980. She loved to type and was an extremely fast typist on the old manual typewriters. Peo-ple used to come and watch in amazement as she pounded those keys. She worked hard at everything she did: shoveling snow, mowing grass and raking leaves (every last leaf had to be picked up).

Milly married Donald Fey in 1943. They lived in Grand Mound and had two children together. She married Clarence "Buck" Fatchett in 1964. He died in 1988.

She was an archivist and maintained extensive informational scrapbooks on family, friends, community and, yes, her favorite soap operas.

Milly was an extraordinary mother and grandmother. Her family meant every-thing to her, and in return, she was very highly valued and loved by all.

She belonged to DeWitt United Method-ist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Iowa Mutual 20-Year Club and the 1918 Club. She had many friends of all ages. People were drawn by her sweet smile, caring attitude and playful personality.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Jimmie) Clark of DeWitt; a son, Russell (Leona) Fey of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchil-dren Mark (Catherine) Fey of Cave Creek, Ariz., Sarah Fey of Gilbert, Cody Clark and Daniel Clark, both of DeWitt; great grandchildren, Brody and Kate Fey of Ari-zona; a sister, Clara Nelson of DeWitt; a brother, Guy (Joan) Boyer of Davenport; a step-daughter Janis (Dick) Black and family of DeWitt; a stepson Jack (Nina) Fatchett and family of Parker, Colo.; and step grandchildren, cousins, nieces, neph-ews and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Vernon Boyer, Merle Boyer, Melvin Boyer; and her sister, Dorothy Ketelsen.

Mildred suffered an incapacitating stroke in May 2011 and had been residing at Westwing Place in DeWitt. Her family is grateful to the staff at Westwing for the excellent care she received and for making her and all of us feel like their own family members. Their kindnesses will never be forgotten.

Milly's spirit touched many people over the years. She will be greatly missed, but her memory lives on in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held in the spring, her favorite time of the year, when her family and friends can congregate to honor her memory.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
