Marjorie G. Davenport
Marjorie G. Davenport, 92, of Cottonwood, Ariz., died Feb. 3, 2013, at Cottonwood Village Assisted Living.

Bueler Funeral Home in Cottonwood is in charge of the cremation. The family is planning a private memorial service.

Marjorie Gwendolyn Chandler Davenport was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Creston to Thomas and Fannie Rhoades Chandler.

Marjorie graduated in 1938 from Lenox High School and taught in rural one-room country schools.

She married John N. Davenport May 18, 1940, at the United Methodist parsonage in Maryville, Mo. They began farming near Kent, and later near Lenox, where they raised registered Polled Hereford cattle.

Upon retiring from farming, Marjorie and John lived in Creston, before moving to DeWitt for many years, where Marjorie was active in several clubs, including the flower club. She especially enjoyed roses and had a rose garden. In 2009 Marjorie and John moved with their daughter and son-in-law to Arizona.

Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Connie LaBarr, PhD., of Zion, Ill., and Vicki (Wayne) Fischer of Sedona, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grand-children.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, a son and a sister.
