Mildred Charleen Floyd
Mildred Charleen Floyd, 87, of Maquoketa died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Clover Ridge Place, Maquoketa.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. Burial will take place in the Savanna Township Cemetery.

Visitation was held 4-7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Ill.

Charleen was born in Benton, Wis., Feb. 2, 1926, to Clarence and Mable Carter Gray of rural Benton. She graduated from Benton High School and the University of Wisconsin, Platteville.

She taught school in Benton before marrying William Floyd Dec. 27, 1947, in Dubuque. She taught first grade and kindergarten for the Chestnut Park School District and the Savanna Unit District until her retirement in 1984.

She enjoyed teaching and giving of her time to the church and civic organizations.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.

Charleen is survived by a son, Bruce (Karilyn) Floyd of Delmar; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gwen Gill of Racine, Wis., and Lynn (Ray) Olson of Janesville, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sisters.

A memorial fund has been established
