Lawrence "Larry" H. Harksen
Lawrence "Larry" H. Harksen, 87, of Moline, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Ill.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 25, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, Ill.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Larry was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Durant to Harry and Katherine Griebel Harksen. He was a graduate of DeWitt High School with the class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.

He married Marian Sutterman Feb. 24, 1968, in Bettendorf.

He owned and operated Larry's Standard Service, DeWitt, for many years and retired from Iowa Illinois Riverside Generating Plant, Riverdale, in 1990.

He was active in the DeWitt Jaycees and the Moline American Legion. He enjoyed playing over-50 slow pitch softball.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Katherine (Dan) Hoeper of Blue Grass, Nancy (Dan) Wilson of Alexander, Ark., and Patricia (Carl) Colson of Davenport; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Buss of Paso Robles, Calif.; a brother, Wayne (Margaret) of Folletts; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
