Edward Joseph Hughes Jr.
Edward "Papa" Joseph Hughes Jr., 72, of DeWitt died Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home, following a battle with cancer.

Per Ed's request, there will be no services.

Arrangements are in care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.

Edward Joseph Hughes Jr. was born July 9, 1940, to Edward Sr. and Mildred Malik Hughes in Davenport. He attended Bettendorf High School and St. Ambrose College.

Ed married Sandra Jean Flathers in 1959.

He worked at Alcoa in Bettendorf for 31 years as a production control administrator, retiring in 1990. After retiring from Alcoa, he became an Iowa State Licensed Private Investigator.

Ed was a Junior Achievement advisor, a certified Master Gardener and Alcoa Club president. His hobbies included woodworking, crossword puzzles, crypto quotes, grilling outdoors, cribbage and fishing.

He served in the National Guard for six years and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church in DeWitt.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Mary Beth (Todd) Nutting of Boise, Idaho; sons, David (Theresa) of Elgin, Ill., Steven (Shelly) of Brookfield, Wis., and Michael (Anne) of LeClaire; nine grandchildren; brothers, Jerry (Judy) of Arizona, and Roger (Marilyn) of Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hughes of Davenport.

Preceding Ed in death were his parents and two brothers.
