Jerris G. 'Jerry' Petersen
Jerris G. "Jerry" Petersen, 80, of Donahue, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors conducted by the Donahue American Legion Post 532 were held in Maysville Cemetery.

Jerry was born Nov. 15, 1932, in Davenport, the son of Chris and Elsie Hess Petersen.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955. Jerry was united in marriage to Ruth L. Fitzgerald Oct. 18, 1961, in Davenport.

Jerry was co-owner of P & W Implement in Donahue for 40 years. He was a 58-year member of the Donahue American Legion Post 532 where he had been the former head of the firing squad and membership chair. He was also past-president and treasurer of the Donahue Sportsmen's Club and served as treasurer of the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department. He and Ruth were also former members of the Davenport Moose Lodge.

Jerry was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and he enjoyed playing solitaire.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of 51 years, Ruth; his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Cathy Petersen of Cedar Rapids and their children, Ellen and Christian; Craig and Dotti Petersen of Davenport and their children, Jessyca, AJ and Jacen; and his sisters, Corella Levien of Eldridge and Cora Bergeson of Seneca, Ill.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Amy; and his brother, Burt.

Memorials may be made to the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department, the Donahue Sportsmen's Club, American Legion Post 532 or a charity of the donor's choice.
