Katie C. Henningsen
Katie C. Henningsen, 82, of DeWitt, formerly of Elvira, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, at the Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.  

Burial will be in the Elvira Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Thursday, April 25, at the funeral home.

Katie Christine Henningsen was born June 6, 1930, in Tolk, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, to Peter and Auguste Petersen.    She was educated in German schools and attended a business school.  

She married Henry Henningsen in Haddeby, Schleswig-Holstein, May 24, 1952.  They resided briefly in Germany and emigrated to the United States, arriving in New York, March 17, 1953.  They settled in Clinton County, where they farmed and raised their family.  In 1976, they built a home near Elvira, where they resided until moving to DeWitt in September of 2012.

Katie was an avid organic gardener and an excellent cook and baker.

Surviving are her husband; sons, Birger (Janae) Henningsen of Elvira and Harlo (Julie) Henningsen of Bettendorf; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Bill Hansen of Clinton;  a brother, Uwe  (Asta) Petersen of Germany; two nieces and other relatives.

Preceding Katie in death were a daughter, a brother and a niece.
