Minnie Gottburgsen
Minnie Margaret Gottburgsen, 74, of Miles died Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Preston, with the Rev. Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery.

Visitation was held 3-7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the church. 

Minnie was born March 4, 1939, in Goose Lake to Andrew and Thekla Kruse Nielsen. She graduated from Preston High School with the class of 1957, and was a practical nurse graduate of St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

She served as a nurse for Drs. Broman and Brown in Maquoketa.

She married Martin Gottburgsen May 5, 1963, at St. John Lutheran Church. They farmed together for 36 years.

Minnie was a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She cherished her time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She enjoyed sewing and quilting, playing cards and games and loved to be busy in the kitchen.

Her church life and family were also very important to her.

Minnie and Martin spent over 14 years wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., where they were both active in the community.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Andrew Gottburgsen of Miles; daughters, Inge (Jeff) Corlis of Eldridge and Jan (Chad) Ketelsen of Charlotte; three grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Ralph) Marquardt of New Auburn, Wis.; and a brother, Norman (Barb) Nielsen of Princeton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister and a nephew.
