Betty Simmons
Betty Evers Simmons died May 5, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center in Clinton.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Betty was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Low Moor to Johanas "Jack" and Hazel Lee Evers.  

She graduated from Clinton High School in 1943. She performed clerical work for Pillsbury Mills, Agri-King and Schick General Hospital. She was also manager of Simmons Fine Jewelry and Giftware and co-owner of the three Unicorn boutiques and tea rooms located in Mt. Carroll and Freeport Ill., and Clinton.

Betty married Dr. Robert C. Simmons. She and her husband visited six continents, including a 44 day around the world tour. They were "snow birds" in the Palm Desert, Calif., area.  

Her Clinton community activities included the First United Presbyterian Church, Clinton Symphony Orchestra, Tri-S Women's Club and Agatha Circle. She served on many boards and committees. Betty was active in PEO Chapters HV, where she served as President and JW, Meals on Wheels, Alpha Delphian Literary Society and was a 50-year member of the Clinton Country Club Auxiliary, having served as president.

She loved to play golf, bridge and was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Betty is survived by her husband; children, Dr. Robert L. (Renee Gabriel) Simmons of Galena, Ill., Lynn Marie Simmons (Mark Yaukey) of Los Altos, Calif., and James Jon Simmons of Coralville; five grandchildren; siblings, Nancy L. Dreibelbeis of Camanche, Paul E. (Corrine) Evers of Bryant, Donald Carlye (Vicki) Evers of Low Moor and Richard L. Evers of DeWitt; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
