Betty J. Peterman Lass, 86, of Preston died June 23, 2013, after a brief illness.
Following Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be planned at a future date.
Betty was born Oct. 31, 1927, to Walter and Catherine Flathers Peterman in Maquoketa.
She was raised by her Grandmother Flathers. She graduated from Welton High School in 1945.
Betty married Arlan W. Lass Sept. 2, 1945. They lived in eastern Iowa and Phoenix, Ariz., before moving back to Preston, where they owned and operated Lass Farm House Foods.
Betty raised was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston, taught Sunday school, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer EMT and volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels.
An avid reader, she loved to sew and play the piano.
Betty is survived by a son, Dennis of Spragueville; daughters, Gwen (Mark) Entsminger of Hinsdale, Il., Barbara (Dan) Buskirk of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Christy Scheffert of Edwardsburg, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Ed Peterman; a half-sister Carrie Griffin; a step-sister, Lois Mills; step-brothers, Clarence and Carl Seymour; and several cousins, nephews and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons and two brothers-in-law.
