Arthur Frey
Arthur Frey, 90, of DeWitt, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

A funeral service was held Friday, June 28, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Pastor David Olson of Harvest Bible Chapel, Davenport, officiated.

Burial and military rites were held in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. Pallbearers were Michael Frey, Matthew Frey, Heath Frey, Mark Schroeder, Eddie Mercado and Chris Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Heather Frey Schroeder, Heidi Frey Carr, Cara Frey Johnson, Sara Frey and Staci Frey Mercado.

Arthur was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Sterling, Ill., to Charles and Mary Kline Frey. He attended schools in Clinton County.

Arthur served in the Army for five years during World War II in the European Theatre.

He married BeElda E. Blackman March 4, 1946, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Welton. They owned and operated Frey's Eats restaurant in DeWitt for three years following his Army discharge. Arthur worked for Walker's grocery and later, Walker's men's store, 1950 until his retirement in 1986.

He was an avid golfer and received many trophies and several hole-in-one awards as a member of Springbrook Country Club in DeWitt. He was a member of the DeWitt American Legion.

Arthur is survived by sons, Dean (Beverly) and Gene (Pat), all of DeWitt, and Dennis (Carolyn) of Montevallo, Ala.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (Gene) Bradt of Pascagoula, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his wife, twin grandsons, a great-grandson, a sister and a brother.
