Marvene Spence
Marvene Spence, 84, of DeWitt died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Grand Haven Memory Care Unit in Eldridge.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 16, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.

Pastor Nikki Ross Bishop officiated.

Burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery.

The former Marvene Faye Baker was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Waterloo to Ernest and Mae Ingalls Baker. She was a graduate of LaPorte City High School.

Marvene married Darrell Gene Spence Sept. 17, 1947, in LaPorte City. The couple resided in Hudson for a time until moving to DeWitt in 1970.

In addition to being a homemaker, Marvene worked at the former Rabe's Greenhouse in DeWitt. Her husband preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2007.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, card clubs and spending time with her family.

Surviving are sons, Kevin (Susan) of Alpha, Ill., Kipp (Sandy) of Silvis, Ill., Rod (Shavaun Kidd) of Milan, Ill., and Shawn (Susan) of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Hammersly of LaPorte City.

Marvene also was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Miller.

Memorials may be made to Grand Haven Memory Unit.
