Joyce Marie Kaufmann Caldwell
Joyce Marie Kaufmann Caldwell, 74, of DeWitt, answered Jesus' call home Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Services in celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley. The Rev. Warren Riley will officiate.

Visitation was 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Burial will be in the Hazleton Cemetery in Hazleton.

The daughter of John and Olinda "Lindy" Kaufmann, Joyce was born in Hazleton May 6, 1939. Her family later moved to Pleasant Valley.

She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1959 and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

In 1959, she married John Hendley. They settled in Eldridge and were blessed with two children: Terresa L. (David Sunds) Braun of Norwalk and Timothy (Clarissa "Kay") Hendley of Milan, Ill.

Over the years, Joyce was employed in the traffic department of Alcoa, was a dorm parent at the Navajo School in Rock Point, Ariz.; she also worked in the pediatric unit at St. Luke's Hospital and later at Caterpillar Remanufacturing in Riverdale.

Joyce and Merville "Bud" Caldwell were married July 26, 1997, and moved to DeWitt.

Joyce was blessed with three bonus daughters: Marsha (Roger) Miller of Plainfield, Linda Caldwell (Larry Faust) and Sandra (Rick) Short of Oelwein.

In addition to her husband, Bud, Joyce is survived by their five children; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; a sister, Roberta (Bob) Lorenz of Loveland, Colo.; brothers, Edward (Carol) Kaufmann of LeClaire, Arnold (Diane) Kaufmann of Davenport and Jon (Mary) Kaufmann of Bettendorf.

She was preceded into Heaven by her parents.
