Richard A. Eggers
Richard A. Eggers, 83, of Teeds Grove died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center South, Clinton.

Visitation was Monday, Sept. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Faith Lutheran Church, Andover, where the funeral service was held.

Burial was in the Andover Cemetery.

Richard was born Jan. 2, 1930, on the family farm to John J. and Rosa Jess Eggers in Clinton County. He attended Miles High School and graduated with the class of 1948.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War in Tokyo, Japan, as a military police officer.

Richard married the love of his life, Leola Ruchotzke Oct. 4, 1953, in Preston. Leola passed away Dec. 28, 2003, in Dubuque.

Richard farmed all of his life on his family's Century Farm until his retirement in 1992. He was very proud of his family and cherished watching his grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed card playing, telling jokes, gardening and woodworking.

He was a long-time member of the Andover Volunteer Fire Department, Faith Lutheran Church, the Clinton County Farm Bureau, Miles American Legion and AMVETS.

Richard also was a member of the Clinton County Pork Producers, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988.

Survivors include his 10 children, Tricia (Ken) Perron of Clinton, Kevin (Andra) Eggers of Clinton Elaine (Buck Clark) Eggers of Waterloo, Carolyn (Terry) Speth of Atkins, Dennis (Janelle) Eggers of Clinton, Jeanette (Dave) Bennett of Morrison, Ill., Laura (Willy) Aldis of Clinton, Darla Hasken of Miles, Glenda (Mike) Bolte of Oswego, Ill., and Eileen (Paul) Hansen of Hartford; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Eggers of Clinton.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Leola; two brothers, Ralph and Robert; a grandson, Kyle Bennett; and his parents.

A memorial fund has been established in Richard's memory.
