Erna E. Petersen, 101, of DeWitt, formerly of Goose Lake, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at St. John Lutheran Church in Preston.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the church and Friday 9:30 a.m. until the service hour at the church.
Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Lance, Brent, Brice and Joel Petersen, Kevin Richmond and Monty Pipkin. Honorary pallbearers will be Ingwer Feddersen, Louis Ingwersen and Henry Henningsen.
The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton is assisting the family.
Erna was born Sept. 4, 1912, in Ocholm, Germany, the daughter of Broder and Christine Hinricksen Nissen. She married August M. Petersen Jan. 29, 1932 in Germany; he died in 1958.
Erna was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau and the Deep Creek Homemakers. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and maintaining her yard.
Erna is survived by sons, Raymond (Myrna) Petersen of Bryant and August (Earlene) Petersen of DeWitt; grandchildren, Jana, Joni, Sharilyn, Joel, Jane, Lance, Brent and Brice; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grand-children; a daughter-in-law, Betty Petersen of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Martin and Ralph, a sister and two brothers.
