Donald D. Coobs
Donald D. Coobs, 71, of rural Dixon died Friday, April 25, 2014, at his home. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Calamus. Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in Garnavillo Community Cemetery, Garnavillo. Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Calamus, or the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department.

Donald D. Coobs was born in 1942 in Clayton County, a son of William and Gladys Coobs. He graduated from Elkader High School and was united in marriage Feb. 14, 1962, to Rebecca Jean Allyn in Garnavillo. They made their home near Dixon, where they raised their family and Don worked at the IH and later the John Deere dealerships. Becky preceded him in death in May 2004.

Don enjoyed being "in the country" and raised some animals on his acreage. A true "people person," Don always enjoyed being with family and friends but occasionally found time to slip away and go fishing when he wasn't fixing something.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Detlefs, Calamus; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Gwen Coobs, Donahue; grandchildren, Brittney Crossen, Mikaela Crossen, Alexa Coobs and her fiancé Joshua Scherer, and Austin Coobs; and stepgrandchildren, Stephen (Maegan) Detlefs and Amanda Detlefs; his twin sister, Dorothy Thompson, Muscatine, and sister, Shirley (Don) Marmann, Farmersburg; his brother, Edward (Sandy) Coobs of Elkader; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bernice White.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rebecca Coobs.
