Merle Lester Vance
Merle Lester Vance, 88, of Charlotte died late Wednesday evening, May 21, 2014, at his home.

Visitation will be 9-10:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. 

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Merle was born Oct. 5, 1925, to Lester and Helen Atherton Vance in Camanche.  He attended country school in Clinton County. Merle served in the U.S. Army. He married Charlotte Barnett. They later divorced. Merle worked on the family farm for about 35 years, after which he drove trucks and worked as a mechanic. Merle enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Vance; grandchildren, Jeremy, Matthew and McKenna; two great-grandsons; a sister, Dolly Rose Vance; and nephews, Gary Vance and Terry (Mollie) DeLarm.

Merle was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie; a grandson, Jacob; and his sister, Delila Rickertsen.
