Sabers finish WaMaC East slate with sweep of Anamosa

By Ross Eberhart
Sports editor

The road proved to be kind for the Central volleyball team as the Sabers headed west for their WaMaC East finale with Anamosa, Tuesday night.

The Sabers controlled the action from start to finish to earn a strong 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 victory.

"It is always nice to get a win in the WaMaC in three games," Central head coach Peggy Kuehn said. "Anamosa is a program that has certainly improved over the past three or four seasons."

The Sabers got a big night out of senior Cori Peterzalek who accounted for exactly half of the team's 40 kills, while posting a kill efficiency of .417.

"Cori had one of her best nights offensively with 20 kills," Kuehn said. "Our setters did a nice job getting the ball out to her."

No Saber was more efficient than senior Noelle Feldpausch, who converted seven of her 10 attack attempts with just one kill errors.

Katie Irwin joined Feldpausch with seven kills and added a team-best 18 digs and a block on the defensive end.

Ellie Ladehoff had a block of her own and added three kills for the Sabers.

Mackenzie Kuehn and Lexi Delaney had 20 and 13 assists respectively and also had a strong night behind the service stripe. The latter led the team with three aces, while the former was right behind her with two.

Stephanie Schrader had 11 digs in the match with Peterzalek coming up with 14. Both players had aces during the match.

Feldpausch paced Central with two blocks during the contest with Mollie McCulloh joining Irwin and Ladehoff with one block. Additionally, Irwin led the team with 23 serve attempts and 22 successes.

"I am really happy with our improvement over the past couple of weeks," Kuehn said of her team which has won its past two matches. "We are playing well right now and I am looking for us to take this momentum into our conference tournament next week."
