Saber bowlers set to compete at 1A state meet
After nearly a three-week wait, the Central bowling program will have a chance to take on the best in the state during the 1A state bowling meet held Monday at the Plaza Lanes in Des Moines.

Originally scheduled for Feb. 21, the meet was postponed to the later date due to winter weather, giving the Sabers girls bowling team and individual boys qualifier Allen Mumm ample time to practice for the meet.

The new date is also accompanied by a new starting time, as bowlers will begin competition at 11 a.m. with doors opening an hour before.

The Saber girls posted the second-highest score during the 1A state qualifying meets across the state with only Dubuque Wahlert topping Central's score of 2,736 (the Golden Eagles bowled a 2,822).

Each Central girls bowler will also have an opportunity to win an individual state title.

An individual state title will also be the goal for Mumm, who earned the sixth of eight at-large spots at the meet with a 457 series at the substate meet.

Mumm ranks fifth in class 1A in series average at 437.8 and his high series is a 505.
