Cal-Wheat golfer Vivianne Gustafson picks up some grass as she hits a shot during Monday’s 1A regional meet. Gustafson led the Warriors with a 64 on the back nine as part of a round of 132, which was good for 22nd at the meet.
Short-handed Warriors compete in 1A regional meet

Monday's 1A first-round regional golf meet proved to be all about individuals for the Calamus-Wheatland girls golf team.

Already low on numbers, the Warriors became even more short-handed when junior Lauren Heilig was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury.

That left Cal-Wheat with just three golfers for the meet, one fewer than the required number for a team score.

That meant the trio of Abby Perry, Vivianne Gustafson and Brodi Bousselot were solely looking for individual spots in the regional finals.

Unfortunately, the Warriors came up short in their bid despite a pair of top-25 finishes.

Leading the way for Cal-Wheat was Perry, who took 18th in the meet with a 125.

The junior shot a team-best 60 on the front nine and then added a 65 after the turn with a bogey on the 11th hole.

The Warriors' best score over the final nine holes came from Gustafson, who also bogeyed the 11th hole as part of a 64. The sophomore added a 68 on the front nine for a 132 - good for 22nd in the field.

Bousselot finished things off for the Warriors in her first postseason meet. The freshman finished four strokes behind Gustafson with a 72 on the front nine and then added a 79 on the back for an overall round of 151 and a 33rd-place finish.
