Sabers to scrimmage Friday

By Ross Eberhart
Sports editor

The start of the regular season might still be a little over a week away, but the Central football team will still have a chance to take on an opponent when they take part in a scrimmage with Davenport West, Friday night.

The event will be held at Brady Street Stadium in Davenport and kick off at 6 p.m. with the skill players competing in 7-on-7 drills and linemen battling in one-on-ones.

At 6:30 the actual scrimmage will take place. Both teams will have three series on offense in the "first" quarter with the sophomore teams following with two of their own.

The Sabers and Falcons will get two series in the second quarter with the sophs getting one.

After a small halftime, the two squads will get another two series with the ball in the third quarter with the sophomores again getting one.

The scrimmage will finish in the fourth quarter with special situations. Each team will have three series where they will be able to work on moving the ball in the red zone, on the goal line and backed up on their own end zone. The sophomores will then have two opportunities to work on their own special situations.

The Sabers are looking to build off a season in which they tied for a district title and advanced to the state quarterfinals, while the Falcons - who are coached by former Northeast head man Jeremy Mosier - will look to improve on their ninth-place finish in the MAC.
