The 38th Annual Bluegrass & Old-time Music Gathering will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at Eden Valley Refuge. The free stage shows begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by a free chili supper and potluck at 4:30. In case of rain, activities will be held in the nature center.

At dusk on Saturday, there will be a public open house at the Jens-Wendt Observatory at Sherman Park. Use the north entrance at the corner of 274th Street and 160th Avenue, rural Calamus. Members of the Quad City Astronomical Society will be in attendance for an evening of star-gazing if the sky is clear.

Open Range Air Rifles will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m., at Rock Creek Marina & Campground. The Air Rifle Range will be open in the basement of the Eco Center for public use. The event will include safety and practical instruction. Participants must use the center’s equipment and will be under the watchful eye of a range master. Children (9+) must be accompanied by an adult.
