The DeWitt Chamber & Development Company is organizing a new event for this summer. On Thursday, June 4th, the DCDC will host “DeWitt’s Wine Walk.”

The event will take place 5-7 p.m. on 6th Avenue and the immediate surrounding side streets.

“The purpose of the event is to give residents, visitors and employees of DeWitt communities, the opportunity to shop and experience downtown 6th Avenue, while enjoying free beverages provided by the participating businesses,” said DCDC Program and Events Coordinator Molly Goettsch.

Participants will be able to pre-purchase tickets either online, in person at the DCDC office, or at a pre-determined business location.

To keep participants spread out evenly throughout the event, “passports” will be put into groups. Each “passport” will require the participant to visit certain downtown businesses.

There will be four different businesses in each group — each group will contain one retailer, one restaurant, and one or two services. There will also be two blank spaces or “wildcards” where the participant can pick the other two stops. The “passports” will be turned in at the end of the Wine Walk for the chance to win prizes.

Participants will not be required to visit every location in the walk, but can if desired.

Pre-registration will be $10 and registration the day of the event will be $15. Individuals must pre-register ahead of time or the day of the event to obtain the event passport as well a souvenir wine glass.

Participants are required to show their ID and will be given a waiver to sign to receive their event wrist-band. Registration will take place outside the DCDC office that afternoon.

Businesses interested in participating must:

- Remain open from 5-7 p.m.

- provide wine and water; snacks are optional but highly encouraged

- Be willing to collect completed participation passports at the end of the event. The DCDC will collect completed passports first thing the next morning.

“The DCDC is very excited to be including a new event in our downtown area and we hope you choose to be part of it,” Goettsch said. “If your business would like to participate in the first DeWitt Wine Walk, please let me know by April 30th. If you would like to participate as a sponsor, please let me know by April 24th.”
