As health care facilities face shortages of supplies designed to protect their workers from exposure to COVID-19, Quad-Cities area businesses, groups and individuals are demonstrating their caring spirit.

Genesis has received dozens of offers to assist with needs through donations of various items, including personal protective equipment (PPE), N95 masks and hand-sewn surgical masks.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming, and truly humbling.

Genesis currently has the protective gear and supplies needed to protect our employees as they care for patients. We continue to work with our medical suppliers to secure future deliveries of necessary items. However, donations from the public can help supplement stocks so that our hospitals and clinics are prepared should the number of COVID patients rise sharply in the coming weeks. We will update this list as often as necessary and keep the community updated on the priority of our needs at this link and on our social media pages.

Suggested donation items of priority as of 3.24.20:

•        Bleach wipes

•        Anti-microbial hand soap

•        Spools of one-quarter to three-quarter inch elastic of any color

For the many local sewers who have inquired about making basic facemasks or N95 mask covers for health care workers, preferred patterns, along with sewing instructions, can be found here:

If you already have made masks that are different from these patterns, don’t worry. ALL hand-sewn masks will be accepted and all sewn masks can be dropped at Salvation Army.

To simplify and centralize the donation collection process, communicate the need for donations to a wider audience and to make sure all Quad Cities health care organizations can continue to serve residents of the region, ALL donations are being funneled through the Quad Cities COVID-19 Coalition. The Salvation Army is handling the donations on behalf of the Coalition, serving as a central drop-off point. Salvation Army will then work with county emergency management agencies to distribute donations back to Genesis and other organizations as needed.

Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army location at 100 Kirkwood Blvd., Davenport, on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to donate supplies is advised to call (563) 324-4808 first. Donors should prepare for a high volume of calls, have patience, and leave a message if their call is unanswered.

Thank you for being in this COVID-19 fight together. #InThisTogether with our Community.
