Authorities probe death

The porch leading to the entrance to 319 Ninth Ave. in DeWitt overflowed with flower arrangements Monday. The owner of the house, Jessica Elizabeth Vance, was found dead at her home Friday.

The cause and manner of a 29-year-old woman’s death is under investigation, the DeWitt Police Department confirmed Friday in a press release.

DeWitt Police Chief David Porter said  in the release that officers were dispatched to 319 Ninth Ave. in DeWitt at 9:44 a.m. Friday in response to a report of an unresponsive female. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a 29-year-old woman, who was declared dead at the scene.

She later was identified as Jessica Elizabeth Vance, who owned the home, according to online Beacon records provided by Schneider Geospatial. 

The press release said the cause and manner of Vance’s death were not immediately apparent. The DeWitt Police Department is being assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

 “It is important to note that there is no immediate danger to other residents,” the press release states.

According to a Schultz Funeral Homes obituary, Vance had a son, Thomas

Linden Grunewald.
