First Central State Bank’s ATM lane reopened to vehicular traffic on Monday, a bank official said.
The construction of the library addition next door to the bank, 914 6th Avenue, in DeWitt, led to an inconvenience for some bank customers after the outside lane servicing the ATM had to be torn up.
The area between the bank and library was viewed as a crucial access point for heavy machinery. The problem was that officials realized that the only way to make the access point wide enough meant having to tear into the bank’s ATM lane.
No one remembers exactly when the ATM lane was taken out of commission.
Library director Jillian Achliman admitted recently that reaching the point where workers could pour new concrete took longer than anticipated.
“The bank was very understanding,” she said, noting what a great “neighbor” it has been throughout the ordeal.
“We are grateful for the patience of our customers,” said Leo McGarry, senior vice president at First Central. “We understand that some things take longer than one would expect.”
