Gilbert Joseph Butt

Gilbert Joseph Butt, 59, of Charlotte, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2020, surrounded by his siblings.

He was born March 31, 1961, to Maurice and Alice (Eberhart) Butt and resided in Charlotte his entire life. Gilbert worked at the Sunoco Gas Station in Camanche where he was known as “one of those good lookin’ Butt Boys.” He also was employed by Dupont, Clinton and in the meat department at Bob’s Supermarket, Charlotte. Gilbert then worked at Joe Brown’s Riding Ranch, Charlotte.

After his accident, that left him in a wheelchair, Gilbert never slowed down. He continued to ride horses, go hunting and fishing and was always up for a game of cards, whether poker or crazy 8. 

Surviving are his mother, Alice Butt of Charlotte; his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Allen Kloft of Goose Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Onie and Mary Butt and Larry and Bethie Butt of Clinton, Wade and Janeen Butt of DeWitt, Phillip and Lisa Butt of Grand Mound, Eddie and Jane Butt of Maquoketa and Merlin and Michelle Butt of Albany, Illinois; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gilbert in death were his father, grandparents and a nephew.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home and will be streamed at https://www.facebook.com/schultzfuneralhomes/live. The Rev. Fr. Francis Odoom will officiate with burial at Monmouth Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jason Butt, Quint Butt, Justin Butt, Scott Butt, Ben Butt, Mitch Butt and Nathan Kloft. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Butler, all of Gilbert’s nieces, Bruce Sorenson and Dave Cook.
