John Hansen, 75, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2020 surrounded by his wife and children.
John was born on March 17, 1945 to Alfred and Vera Hansen, of DeWitt, and was one of four boys along with Lauren, Roger, and Kevin.
John married Diane (Moeller) Hansen on June 9, 1973 and was a longtime cattleman raising purebred Charolais cattle, spending much of his life working alongside his father on the family farm. Upon moving to Missouri in 1995, John was a civil servant, working at the Lawrence County Courthouse for many years. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield, Missouri.
John enjoyed many hobbies, but his greatest love was cattle. From childhood on, he spent time every day working with cattle and could be found at the sale barn twice a week after retirement. He also enjoyed bowling, watching old westerns, golfing with the boys and going fishing, a love he passed on to his kids and grandkids.
John was a loving husband of 47 years to Diane, father to Kelly (Zack) Smith of Branson, Missouri; Kyle (Elizabeth) Hansen of Ankeny; Luke (April) Hansen of Mount Vernon, Missouri; Cody (Katie) Hansen of Springfield, Missouri; and Abby (Mike) Tochtrop of Washington, Missouri. And was a wonderful Grandpa to Ethan, Liam, Elyse, Adalyn, Jacob, Alayna, Lincoln, and James. He is already greatly missed.
He will be remembered and celebrated on Saturday, June 20, 2020, 10 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield, Missouri, with a luncheon immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lost and Found Grief Center, Preferred Hospice Care, or Redeemer Lutheran Church.
His care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home Ltd., DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
