Merle “Dean” Dickel, 83, of Walcott, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held in his honor at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Merle was born in Wheatland on April 30, 1937, to Melvin and Hilda (Hass) Dickel. He spent his childhood working on the family farm. He served his country by joining the U.S. Air Force. Merle spent four years stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, where his daughter, Julie was born and in Tampa, Florida, where his son, Jeff was born.
Merle was a very talented musician. He played the bass guitar, trumpet, piano, and tuba, playing and singing in “The Good Times” band. He drove truck for over 40 years and combined his two passions by using “Pickin” as his CB handle.
Survivors include his children, Julie Marxen and Jeff Dickel; grandchildren, Megan Marxen, Hannah Dickel and Claire Dickel; great-grandchildren, Mahki and Nova; sisters, Joyce, Joan and Janice; and brother, Karl. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Judy.
