Jena Edwards of DeWitt was the winner of an $800 scholarship for the leadership skills she has exhibited at her local center, DeWitt Lanes.
Edwards has been on the local Board of Directors for two years. She has helped at numerous tournaments by score monitoring as well as helping with the association trivia nights. She also helped set up and coordinate the local youth tournament held in the spring. Edwards has bowled in local and district family doubles, district and state Pepsi and qualified for Junior Gold in Cleveland when she was 12.
Edwards is also very active in the youth leagues by helping the younger bowlers on Monday and Thursday leagues as well as during the Pee Wee leagues. Many of the youth bowlers locally look up to her for her help and leadership in helping them take their games to a higher level.
Besides her help with the youth bowling leagues, Edwards has been a youth delegate to the Iowa State Youth Conferences for the past few years and is on the state youth sub-committee. In this year’s Iowa State Youth Championship bowling tournament, she earned first place in both Girls Division 1 singles and Girls Division 1 All events earning $200 in scholarships.
She is a two-year letter winner in high school bowling, and is involved in Future Business Leaders of America, student council, speech, jazz, concert and marching band, along with several small instrumental groups, Dance Marathon, which helps the University of Iowa Stead Family Hospital, and is also president of her local 4-H club.
